What is a J-Bevel for pipe beveling?
What is a J-Bevel?
A J-bevel is a type of bevel used on the end of pipe or tubing designed to be welded together using an orbital welding machine. The bevel has an accurately machined land normally around 1/16” thick that is consistent thickness around the tube. This allows the automatic welding machine to be set to fully penetrate the material and not burn through.
What material can be used?
Most common pipe and tube materials can be machined with a j-bevel
When are J-Bevels used?
J-bevels are used in heat exchangers, boiler tube, for heavy wall pipe, and other applications.
What MSI machine is used to produce a J-Bevel?
MSI’s C5H and C8H are capable of producing J-bevels with the proper
tooling in the machine. There is a limitation as to the wall thickness of the pipe or tube that can be processed by these machines.
How long does it take to process the bevel?
The time varies by type of material, wall thickness and size. Most can be processed in under 20 seconds machine cycle time.
